I am! I absolutely can't use the Droid anymore at all. Its a great "iphone-like" phone, but not even close to my Storm 2 :D

So....right now...is the S2 your go to phone?

Bandit

p.s. My work gives me a free blackberry 8330..the service is all free so I cannot complain..just want something more updated...guess Im stuck.

I sold my iphone after 3 years with it and cancelled my contract when I got the free phone...didnt need to pay for another service when I got my BB free right!

I still love my Storm2. Sal, you recommended it to me on BM and I am so happy I listened to you. It's an awesome phone...one of my favorites.

I love my Storm 2. I have been using it since launch. I had the original Storm for a while too. Once the .328 OS came out for the Storm it turned it into an awesome phone. The only 3 things it lacks that the Storm 2 more than adds are the screen, memory and wifi.

I am not sure yet about the Droid. It would be a tough decision if I was presented with the opportunity to use a Droid as to whether I would want to switch.

I work in a VZW store so I get to play with all of them all the time. I get people every day asking which is better - Droid or Storm 2. Or maybe - Tour or Storm 2. For me the biggest need I try to uncover is their need for a physical keyboard. That usually eliminates one or more phones and makes it easier to recommend one. From there, some simple questions and some demonstration usually nails it down. I love pushing the Storm 2 but some people just need those physical keyboards and since sales reps get penalized for returns I try to just get it right either way.

my apologies if this is too far off topic, but I have to ask: what kind of penalty? They train you to comfort customers with the "worry free guarantee", then punish you if vzw has to honor it? That's messed up.

Sales reps are held to certain percentage of returns versus devices sold. VZW has determined that, in order to curtail wasted money on returned devices, they want reps to make sure the customer gets the right device the first time. If their return rate is too high they can get a decellerator on their commissions. It makes sense to do so from a business standpoint. It costs around $300 per returned device - between lost money for the device itself being sent back and not used, cost of returning it etc.

From the customer side, the wfg is a great way to make sure you don't get stuck with a device for the whole 2 years.

All in all VZW is just trying to keep costs down. The $35 restock fee and the decellerator on the sales reps are ways to persuade the customer to take the time to choose the right device the first time so they don't return their device.

Sorry dude, I have not had a single problem with mine.

I know mine will have a hiccup every once in a while where the screen at the clear/end button will not click for a second or two but then it will work after that.

I have been in many discussions with other people on other forums about this screen issue. What seems to be the consensus is that the new electronic button may have a mild software glitch whereas the original Storm had a mechanical button that never stopped working (normally anyway).

I am feeling that this issue will be fixed once they come out with the first maintenance release because it really seems to be a simple software issue.

For me, I just suck it up and work with it since I love it so much.

Sal, what do you think about this? Do you agree? Have you had this issue yourself?

@Jags, I would wait. There won't be a "perfect" one. My first one was driving me crazy. The back button never seemed to work. My current Storm2 is a little harder to press, but I also blame my invisible shield. I believe RIM will hopefully address this problem in future OS builds. Remember that the disks are electronic, so they should be controlled by the OS not by hardware.

Hey thanks for responding. The penalty doesn't sound unreasonable, and it would encourage the reps to listen to the needs of their customer. I can see how abuse of the return policy would get expensive for VZW.

...but now I will feel a little guilty if I decide to take home my 2nd-choice phone (HTC Eris) first to mess around with Android, only to return it for the Storm2. Ignorance is bliss. :depressed:

Sal,
Just wondering....I get that you really like the 9550, but how does the Essex compare with it? Aside from the touchscreen aspect....

Also, have you heard anything IRT Verizon losing exclusivity on the Storm2? I would love to have one, except Sprint will be my carrier for a while yet....

played with a S2 at the verizon store. was definitely a good phone but not something i think i should have to pay a additional cost for.

free early upgrade from the S1 would have been nice :)

I got very Lucky with my S2 because I originally bought the S1 in June before I went on vacation in Florida. I absolutely loved the phone except for the lag and battery pulls. Then I would download unofficial OS's which made the phone so much fun but when I kept hearing about the S2 especially from Sals YouTube videos I think I went crazy and was like damn I'm going to need to put $500+ away if I really wanted it. Well I was like I can't see myself paying $500+ for a new phone right now so I should just wait and with the new 5.0 OS being Official I was happy with that. Now from helping out a few friends with VIP Cards from a club I Bounce at and I always make sure no one messes with them well they did me a favor. I got a text to come in since the bottom part of my S1 had issues clicking and with the insurance I have with this Top of the Line Electronic store they informed me that they had no S1's left and that they would have to do an exchange for the S2. I just had to pay the difference which was only $60 from what I paid for the S1 in June. Well that Halloween I was the Happiest Big Kid with my New piece of Candy and I must say I did Love the S1 (A lot better than the iPhone) but the S2 just took the cake !!! After the First 24 hours with that phone I learned the difference between the S1 and S2. I know my way of getting the S2 probably makes you think this guy is an A**hole but would you turn down an offer like that especially when you had screen problems with the S1 (yes I know I could of done the Torx fix). The Lesson of the Story is treat people well and they just may return the favor. Its only been a month that I've had this phone but still love it !!! It's nice not doing a million battery pulls and downloading a lot of apps and still having application memory extremely high !!! The typing is awesome and just about everything about the phone in my eyes is perfect. Especially hearing all the goodies Blackberry will be releasing the end of this year and early 2010 !!! Sorry for the long post LOL !!!

I live in downtown LA area and the bar signal keeps jumping from no bar to full bar, even when the phone isn't moving. Dropped calls are very frequent as well. My guess is it's a software issue? I don't know, but it's frustrating. Anyone experiencing the same problem?
