im really thinking about a tour right now, but i remember the big deal about people having track ball issues.
solved? or still present?

I just received a refurb tour from VZW, and at the moment the trackball is worlds better than the last several tours that I've been in possession of.

That being said, I haven't had the phone long enough to really pass judgement on the "fixedness" of this issue. I would recommend that if at all possible hold out for the Essex, as you not only will lose any possibility of trackball issues, but will also gain wifi. I sure wish I was able to hold out a bit longer, but what is done is done.

I suppose you could always try to win Sal's giveaway, and then all of your problems would be solved. :)

I'm pretty sure the new Tour's have the problem fixed. I'm on my 7th Tour and continue to have Trackball issues with the refurbished ones. You should be alright with the new ones, mine is working well so far!

I believe the original problem was hardware-related. Most people tried to make it seem like it was software, and honestly, it could have been a bit of both. People with bad original trackballs had been switching them out with the old white trackballs and they worked like they were supposed to. That tells me it's hardware. As other phones are coming out, I believe the Tour is the last "new" phone coming out with the trackball, which was a bust, and everything else will now have the track pad, along with the Tour 2 (Essex, I believe) which will be released next year.

Trackball issues definitely fixed. We almost never have anyone come back now with a Tour that has a bad trackball. Don't know what the issue was but we are glad RIM got it right now.
