Like previously stated, I'm a noob on here and with BBs, so I'm wondering what the benefits of having an unlocked BB is. What exactly does it make you more capable of doing?

if they are CDMA and GSM bbs they can be used on different carriers.
so say my unlocked verizon tour i could put a sim card in to make it gsm aka Tmobile,at&t etc... but unlocked cant go from CDMA to CDMA(that i know of) so no verizon to sprint |

I am just guessing here, but I thought that only CDMA to CDMA and same with GSMA to GSMA? I didn't think that you could go from say AT&T to VZW. That is what I understood, but I could be wrong.

carrier's phone to their network. So, no you cannot use a AT&T phone on VZW either. For GSM, you can unlock a phone and move from AT&T to T-Mobile, but you will not have the same 3G bands so your phone would only get EDGE speeds. I have read on Crackberry that a lot of people use Storms on T-Mobile... so it is possible to use CDMA on GSM. There are two benefits of unlocking your phone. You would need to unlock a BB if you are traveling out of the US and need to use another network SIM card, or if you want to sell your phone, it is preferred to have it unlocked so that it can be used on the buyer's carrier. |
